Paraguayan tennis player Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, 22, secured a spot in the final of the Valencia Challenger 175 by overcoming Spain's Jaume Munar on Saturday. The match, played in the Spanish city, ended with scores of 4–6, 7–6 (3), and 6–4, after a comeback by the Paraguayan.
Munar won the first set 6–4, but Vallejo fought back in the second set, took the tie-break 7–3, and closed it out. In the third set, he maintained the pace and won 6–4.
On his way to the final, Vallejo eliminated Spaniards Bernabé Zapata Miralles (6–1, 6–1) and Nicolás Álvarez Varona (7–6, 6–0), as well as Belgium's Zizou Bergs in the quarterfinals (6–4, 6–3).
Currently ranked 84th in the ATP rankings, Vallejo appears at 78th in the live rankings, which would be a career best. He will compete for the title on Sunday against Serbia's Miomir Kecmanovic, ranked 70th in the world, who advanced by beating Chile's Alejandro Tabilo 7–6 (0), 6–3. The final is scheduled for 7 a.m. Brasília time.
