Paraguay's Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, the country's top-ranked player, finished runner-up at the ATP Challenger 175 in Valencia, Spain, and climbed to 70th in the world rankings. His campaign at the Spanish tournament featured impressive wins against high-level opponents.
Vallejo opened with an authoritative 6-1, 6-1 victory over Spain's Bernabé Zapata. He then defeated another home player, Nicolás Álvarez, 7-6 (7-3), 6-0. In the quarter-finals, he knocked out Belgium's Zizou Bergs, then world No. 39, 6-4, 6-3.
In the semi-finals, the Paraguayan needed three sets to beat Spain's Jaume Muner: 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4. The final, however, went against him. Facing Serbia's Miomir Kecmanović, a former top-30 player, Vallejo fought hard but fell 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Despite the loss in the decider, his performance in Valencia earned enough points for the Paraguayan to leap in the rankings and establish himself among the circuit's top 70.
