Paraguayan tennis player Adolfo Daniel Vallejo reached a new milestone in his career by rising 14 spots in the world rankings of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), reaching 70th place. The rise came even after losing the final of the ATP Challenger 175 in Valencia last Sunday.
Vallejo, 22, lost the final to Serbian Miomir Kecmanović 6-2, 3-6, 6-2. During the tournament, he defeated Spain's Bernabé Zapata (6-1, 6-1), Spain's Nicolás Álvarez (7-6 (7-3), 6-0), Belgium's Zizou Bergs (6-4, 6-3), and Spain's Jaume Munar (4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4).
With his new ranking, Vallejo is the highest-ranked Paraguayan in ATP history and is guaranteed a spot in the main draw of Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the season, which begins on May 24 in Paris. The player announced he will not compete in the ATP 500 in Hamburg to focus on the French tournament.
In the overall rankings, Italy's Jannik Sinner extended his lead after winning the Masters 1000 in Rome, totaling 14,700 points, 3,740 more than Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, who lost 1,000 points due to an injury and will not play Roland Garros.
“Gracias Valencia. Nos vemos en París,” Vallejo wrote on his X account after the final.
