The Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) released its financial indicators report for the first half of 2026, revealing significant growth in dollar-denominated loans. The total balance of foreign currency operations reached $13.7 billion, a 22.47% increase compared to the same period the previous year.
The services sector led the expansion, with a 67.45% increase, reaching $1.96 billion in financing. Construction also recorded significant growth, up 45.32%, totaling $289 million, while housing credit rose 43.09%, summing $140.9 million. Other relevant segments include agriculture, with $3.99 billion, and wholesale trade, with $2.2 billion.
In contrast, the total portfolio of the financial system, which includes operations in guaranis and dollars, grew only 3.77% in the period, reaching G. 192.6 trillion. Consumer credit was the highlight in local currency, with a 22.84% increase and a balance of G. 38.3 trillion, while agriculture showed an 11.75% decline, reflecting a more challenging scenario for the sector.
Deposits also followed the upward trend. In local currency, they grew 18.26% over the last year, while dollar deposits advanced 21.32%. Interest rates for operations in guaranis recorded a slight reduction, maintaining a stable environment in the financial system.
