Joshua Dürksen secured ninth place in the Formula 2 Austrian Grand Prix Feature Race, held this Sunday at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, adding two points to his championship tally. The Paraguayan driver, racing for Invicta Racing, started from eleventh and set a strong pace right from the first lap, gaining two positions before the safety car neutralized the race at the Austrian circuit.
After the restart, Dürksen maintained an aggressive approach and briefly ran in seventh before pitting for the mandatory tire stop. The strategy cost him track time momentarily, but the Paraguayan kept his consistency in a race marred by incidents and originally crossed the finish line in tenth.
The final classification, however, changed significantly after the session ended. FIA stewards handed a 30-second penalty to Norwegian driver Martinius Stenshorne of Rodin Motorsport, who had finished sixth. The penalty was triggered by Stenshorne entering the pits to change tires under Virtual Safety Car conditions, in violation of Article 39.3 of the Sporting Regulations. Following the review, Dürksen moved up to ninth place on a permanent basis and secured two points in the overall standings.
The race was won by Nikola Tsolov, followed by Gabriele Minì and Oliver Goethe. With the Spielberg result, Dürksen reached 23 points in the championship and sits thirteenth in the Formula 2 standings heading into the next round.
The championship now heads straight to the United Kingdom, where the seventh round will take place from July 3 to 5 at the Silverstone circuit.
