Expo Cadam in Asunción Shows Growth of Electric Vehicles in Paraguayan Market

The Expo Cadam Motor Show, running through this Sunday in Asunción, serves as a barometer for Paraguayan consumer preferences and transformations in the local automotive sector. The event, in its 29th edition, occupies over 11,000 square meters at Paseo La Galería and features more than 300 models, including flex-fuel, hybrid, and electric vehicles.

According to Diego Lovera, general manager of the Chamber of Automobile and Machinery Distributors (Cadam), demand remains strong for closed-cab trucks (SUVs) and pickups, segments traditionally popular in Paraguay. However, electric mobility is gaining significant ground. Lovera stated that sales of hybrid and electric vehicles are increasing daily, signaling a gradual consolidation of this alternative in the market.

"I believe we are little by little reaching maturity in this market, which involves technology and a paradigm shift. These are technologies that users need to know and trust. Slowly, we are achieving that. It is a normal process of incorporating new technologies," Lovera assessed.

Asked if high fuel prices are redirecting preferences toward more efficient cars, the executive confirmed that vehicles with new technologies are more efficient and environmentally friendly. He highlighted that the stability of electricity prices in the country is a factor encouraging consumers to evaluate the medium- and long-term economic convenience of electric models.

Regarding the sector's performance, Lovera described the year as positive, with new vehicle sales keeping pace with the good moment for imports, also driven by favorable dollar behavior and strong competition among brands, models, and financing options. For 2026, expectations are for growth in vehicle imports of between 10% and 15% compared to 2025.

During the fair days, participating dealerships offer accessible prices and special financing, in addition to displaying the new 2027 models.
