Agents from the Regional Central Investigations Department detained Facundo Mauricio Balbuena Villasboa, 19, identified as the perpetrator of the femicide of María Celeste Segovia Colmán, 31. The crime occurred in Nueva Italia, Central Department, and the victim's body was found on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in a wooded area of the Itá Yvate neighborhood.
According to the police report, the victim had a lacerating wound on the right side of her neck. At the scene, forensic experts collected a knife with reddish stains, which will undergo forensic analysis. The body was partially covered with branches and leaves.
The suspect was captured around 11:30 p.m. the same day. He already had an arrest warrant for femicide and, in addition, was serving house arrest in another case for attempted intentional homicide committed when he was a minor. Officer Inspector José Díaz of the 30th Police Station in Nueva Italia reported that the young man lived approximately 800 meters from where the body was found.
In the early hours of Wednesday, police and representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office conducted a search of the detainee's home. Several cell phones and pieces of clothing were seized, including a t-shirt that, according to investigators, was allegedly worn by the suspect on the day of the crime and appeared to have already been washed. The items will be examined.
During the operation, agents also recovered a motorcycle reported stolen in Alto Paraná, opening a new line of investigation into the suspect's activities.
Sources indicated that the detainee had a casual relationship with the victim. The line of inquiry gained strength after the young man allegedly confessed the crime to a friend, whose mother alerted the police. This information guided the searches to the area where the body was found.
