Stolen Pickup Recovered in Soybean Field in Alto Paraná

A Toyota Hilux pickup was recovered by police after a home invasion in Juan León Mallorquín. The victims, an elderly couple aged 78 and 75, were held up by five to six armed men who took cash and cell phones. The vehicle was located via GPS tracking in a soybean field.

A Toyota Hilux pickup, license plate BKG 609, 2013 model, was recovered by the National Police after a home invasion that occurred on Tuesday night in the La Victoria neighborhood of Juan León Mallorquín, Alto Paraná department. The victims, Niséforo Martínez, 78, a farmer, and his wife Silvia Barrios de Martínez, 75, were surprised around 9 p.m. when a family member arrived by tractor after working on the farm.

According to Chief Commissioner Arnaldo Irala, head of the Security Department, between five and six men armed with short and long weapons, their faces covered and wearing dark clothing, broke into the residence. Under threats, they allegedly demanded drugs and money, taking 4 million guaraníes in cash and two cell phones, in addition to the pickup.

After the crime, police activated a search operation using the vehicle's GPS system. Satellite tracking led officers to a soybean field, about 800 meters from kilometer 26 of Route PY02, Acaray side, where the pickup was found abandoned. The vehicle was recovered and taken to the police station.

The duty prosecutor, Alfredo Acosta Heyn, ordered the participation of the Criminalistics unit and the National Police Investigations Department to continue the investigations. So far, no suspects have been arrested.
