A man was arrested Tuesday at a boarding house in Fernando de la Mora after being caught on security cameras stealing auto parts from a mechanic shop in San Lorenzo, in the Espírito Santo neighborhood. The crime occurred in March, just one week after he was hired as an employee at the shop.
Security footage shows the suspect entering the shop and taking expensive components, including about five 'pickup truck computers,' parts known as the vehicles' 'brains.' The exact value of the loss has not yet been calculated, according to fiscal Chamorro, who led the operation.
The fiscal noted that the man was already under house arrest for a qualified robbery committed the previous year. 'He was found today at this location, violating his precautionary measure,' Chamorro said. During the search, vehicle keys without justification of ownership and other mechanical tools were seized.
Commissioner Héctor Molina, who participated in the arrest, said the suspect did not resist because he was with his partner and a child. Molina did not rule out that the detainee is part of a car theft scheme. Commissioner Molina stated that they are working with the hypothesis that he leads a group in the Central region dedicated to vehicle thefts.
