During Paraguay’s heat wave, Mariscal Estigarribia, in Boquerón department, reached 43.8°C, surpassing the 43°C mark recorded in 1952. Reports differ on the day: some sources place the reading on Sunday, September 27, while another report attributes it to Monday the 28th.
On both days, localities in different regions exceeded daily high-temperature records. The tallies indicate 13 localities on Sunday and 14 on Monday. One report says 12 localities set records on both days and lists Mariscal Estigarribia, Puerto Casado, Concepción, General Bruguez, Paraguarí, Coronel Oviedo, Minga Guazú, Quyquyhó, Pilar, San Juan Bautista, Caazapá, and Asunción.

In Asunción, the high was 39.5°C on Saturday the 26th, surpassing the daily record of 37°C set in 2021. On Sunday, it reached 39.8°C, above the 38.4°C recorded on the same date in 1999. Puerto Casado reached 42°C and General Bruguez 41.8°C, also on Sunday. In Concepción, the high was 41.2°C.
In an interview with Radio 1000 AM, Eduardo Mingo, director of the Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology, said the influence of El Niño amplified the temperature peaks. He also forecast a series of rain events in October and a very hot summer, recommending that people stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mingo expected a new round of rain and storms to begin on Saturday night of the following weekend and continue into Sunday.
