The Dirección de Meteorología e Hidrología (DMH) issued a special bulletin on Tuesday, warning of a storm system expected to affect the entire Paraguayan territory between Wednesday and Thursday. The phenomenon will bring heavy rain, lightning, the possibility of localized hail, and wind gusts that could reach 100 km/h.
The most affected area will be the northern parts of the Eastern and Western regions (Chaco), where rainfall totals are expected to range between 60 and 100 millimeters, with gusts potentially reaching 100 km/h. For the rest of the country, rainfall is forecasted to be between 30 and 50 millimeters, with winds up to 80 km/h in some spots.
The system is expected to progress in stages. From early Wednesday morning, storms should hit the departments of Caaguazú, Alto Paraná, San Pedro, Concepción, Canindeyú, Amambay, Presidente Hayes, Boquerón, and Alto Paraguay. During the morning, the phenomenon is expected to extend to Cordillera, Central, Asunción, Guairá, Caazapá, and Paraguarí. By early Thursday, the far south of the country—Ñeembucú, Misiones, and Itapúa—should be affected, with unstable conditions continuing through the afternoon and evening.
Meteorologist Juan Gamarra explained that after the rains begin, temperatures are expected to drop moderately. Lows should range between 12°C and 18°C, while highs are not expected to exceed 20°C to 24°C.
Authorities recommend that the public stay alert to official warnings, avoid exposure during storms, secure loose objects in yards and balconies, avoid sheltering under trees, and take special precautions on highways and in areas vulnerable to flooding and flash floods.
