The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) conducted aerodynamic tests at the Polytechnic University of Milan in Italy to test the resistance of the future Bioceanic Bridge that will connect Carmelo Peralta in Paraguay to Porto Murtinho in Brazil. The studies subjected a scale model of the structure to high-intensity winds in a controlled environment, simulating extreme weather conditions.
The tests were conducted by the JYI Consortium, formed by the companies PROSUL, INTEC S.A. and INEXA, and aimed to analyze the bridge's response to severe winds, calibrate stability parameters and adjust structural calculation models. Engineer Juliana Duarte, representing the consortium, highlighted that the Italian university was chosen for its expertise in aerodynamics and the behavior of large structures under wind action.
The tests occurred before the completion of the executive project, allowing results to be integrated into the engineering phase and adjustments to be made to increase the design's robustness. Additionally, the bridge will feature a permanent instrumentation and monitoring system during its operation to track its behavior in real time after inauguration.
The infrastructure is considered strategic for the Bioceanic Corridor, which aims to logistically integrate the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, facilitating trade between Paraguay and Brazil and strengthening regional road connectivity.
