Édgar Rafael Escurra, the nephew of the alleged drug trafficker known as Barón Escurra, was arrested during an operation carried out by Paraguay's National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD) in conjunction with the Public Prosecutor's Office. The action took place in Pedro Juan Caballero, in the department of Amambay, and aimed to dismantle a structure dedicated to drug trafficking.

Escurra, 28, is identified as the successor to his uncle, Felipe "Barón" Escurra Rodríguez, considered one of the region's largest traffickers and currently a fugitive from justice. He was located at a luxurious property in Capitán Bado, where a Toyota Hilux pickup truck, a 12-gauge shotgun, a pistol, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition were seized.

In addition to Édgar, three other individuals were detained during the operation: 19-year-old Carlos Eduardo Cano, Lucio Ariel Amarilla, and 26-year-old Fermín Núñez Núñez. They are suspected of being part of the same criminal organization. At other properties targeted in the operation, 16 packages of Moroccan-type marijuana were found, along with vehicles and Brazilian license plates, allegedly used to facilitate the group's illicit activities.

Investigations indicate that Édgar Escurra took command of the structure after his uncle went into hiding. Barón Escurra remains a fugitive and is wanted by both Paraguayan and Brazilian authorities. Known as the "King of Marijuana," he operates mainly in the border region of Capitán Bado, from where he sends large quantities of cannabis to the Brazilian market.

All those detained have been placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office for the necessary judicial proceedings. The operation marks another chapter in the fight against drug trafficking in the Amambay region, where SENAD has intensified its actions in recent months.
