Anti-drug operations destroyed 26 hectares of cannabis crops in two actions in Caazapá and Amambay. In Tava’i, the official tally also recorded 50 kilograms of chopped cannabis destroyed and estimated that more than 30 tonnes of drugs had been neutralized, with losses exceeding US$4.5 million for organizations involved in production and trafficking.
In the Cordillera de Tava’i Natural Reserve, in the department of Caazapá, crops were eradicated across 10 hectares on four plots in the Santa Ana and Apepú localities. The operation took place on the fourth day of eradication in the area and also destroyed two camps. Personnel from CODI–FTC Sur and BIMI took part, along with the National Anti-Drug Secretariat (SENAD) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The prosecutorial intervention was led by César Martínez Chamorro, an agent specializing in combating drug trafficking.
The official Tava’i tally combines the eradicated crops with the destroyed chopped cannabis and estimates that the drugs were destined mainly for the Brazilian market. Authorities calculated losses of more than US$4.5 million for organizations linked to production and trafficking.
In Bella Vista Norte, in the department of Amambay, a search warrant at the rural property La Niña led to the eradication of five plots containing about 16 hectares of cannabis plants in a growth stage. At the site, authorities found 940 kilograms of suspected chopped cannabis in 47 bags, as well as a camp.
The operation at La Niña was led by prosecutor Sarita Bonzi, of the Specialized Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking No. 1 in Pedro Juan Caballero. Also taking part were prosecutorial assistant Blanca Dávalos, prosecutorial secretary Fabiola Noguera, and personnel from Bella Vista Norte Regional Department No. 10, the Special Forces, SENAD, CODI, and the Joint Task Force (FTC).
