Paraguay and Brazil sign border security agreement and pledge to combat corruption and organized crime

Paraguay and Brazil signed a police and border security cooperation agreement and the "2026 Asunción Commitment against Corruption and Organized Crime" during Mercosur ministerial meetings, including joint actions against corruption, money laundering, integration of migration systems, and the creation of the Puerto Murtinho–Carmelo Peralta binational command.

The governments of Paraguay and Brazil signed a police and border security cooperation agreement, as well as the "Asunción 2026 Commitment against Corruption and Organized Crime," during the 55th Meeting of Mercosur Interior and Security Ministers and the 63rd Meeting of Justice Ministers.

For Paraguay, the instruments were signed by Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez Lezcano and Interior Minister Enrique Riera. For Brazil, the signing was carried out by Justice and Public Security Minister Wellington Cesar Lima e Silva. Executive branch ministers, vice ministers, and police authorities took part in the ceremony.

The cooperation agreement provides for joint efforts to combat corruption and money laundering, as well as training police officers in financial analysis and investigation. It also includes the integration of migration control systems, the strengthening of police cooperation along the future Bioceanic Corridor, and the creation of the Puerto Murtinho–Carmelo Peralta binational command, among other areas.
