Paraguay assists Paraguayans stranded in Bolivia by protests and road blockades

The Paraguayan government, through its embassies in Bolivia and Peru, is providing consular assistance to Paraguayan citizens stranded and unable to travel within Bolivian territory due to weeks-long protests and road blockades.

The Paraguayan government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is closely monitoring the situation of Paraguayan citizens who have been stranded in Bolivia due to the social crisis affecting the neighboring country. The Embassy of Paraguay in the Plurinational State of Bolivia is providing direct assistance to these nationals, who are facing difficulties because of protests and roadblocks across several Bolivian departments.

For several weeks now, President Rodrigo Paz's government has been facing a wave of social mobilizations that have caused serious disruptions to land transportation, affecting passenger transit, the supply of goods, and movement between cities. The situation has prompted Paraguayan authorities to activate consular assistance mechanisms.

The Paraguayan Embassy in Bolivia is monitoring and assisting citizens who have been stranded in the towns of Confital and Panduro, strategic points along Bolivia's Trunk Highway, the main route connecting the east (Santa Cruz) to the west (La Paz, Oruro) and the exits to Pacific ports in Chile and Peru.

Diplomatic authorities also confirmed that there are other Paraguayans in the border area between Peru and Bolivia, who are likewise receiving assistance from the Embassy of Paraguay in Lima.

In light of the protests and road closures that have now lasted for weeks, the Paraguayan government reiterated its recommendation that Paraguayan citizens avoid traveling to Bolivia while the situation of unrest persists. "Paraguayan authorities reiterate the recommendation to Paraguayan citizens to avoid traveling to Bolivia while the situation of conflict and the protests that have been taking place for several weeks persist, given the difficulties for land transit and movement within the country," the Foreign Ministry stated in its communiqué.
