The Paraguayan financial system is facing an unprecedented security crisis, with digital attacks and violent robberies shaking customer confidence. In recent months, flaws in banking applications have allowed criminals to drain accounts and activate fraudulent loans in victims' names, causing estimated losses of over 3.2 billion guaranis.
Meanwhile, physical attacks on bank branches have intensified, such as the one in Santa Rita, Alto Paraná, where a heavily armed group blew up branches of Banco Familiar, GNB, and Ueno Bank. Investigations by the National Police and the Public Ministry indicate the possible involvement of security agents in the criminal scheme.
Financial institutions have been criticized for classifying digital thefts as authorized transactions, leaving victims responsible for debts they did not incur. The Central Bank of Paraguay has issued alerts about fraudulent platforms, such as "Financiera Guaraní S.A.", which promises false financial benefits.
The situation worries analysts, especially after the Banco Máster scandal in Brazil, which generated losses of 12 billion reais. Experts warn of the need for greater oversight and coordination between the public and private sectors to prevent a collapse of confidence in the Paraguayan banking system.
