Paraguay's hotel sector recorded 43% growth in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period the previous year, according to data released by the Paraguayan Hotel Industry Association (AIHPY). Average occupancy reached 61% nationwide and 64% in Asunción, reflecting positive performance driven by business tourism and the growth of new tourist centers.
AIHPY president Juan Carlos Danieri reported that the average hotel rate was $95 during the first six months of the year, positioning Paraguay among the ten markets with the best rates in the region. He noted that, even so, Asunción remains the most economical capital in terms of hotel service offerings.
The 61% occupancy rate corresponds to more than 400 hotels distributed throughout the country, with significant contributions from destinations like Itapúa and Ciudad del Este, which complement the movement recorded in the capital. Danieri stated that Argentina and Brazil continue to be the main source markets, representing 85% of the country's tourist consumption. Data from the National Tourism Secretariat (Senatur) indicate that Paraguay received 2.4 million tourists in 2025.
The United Nations (UN) reported a 43% increase in visitor arrivals in the first half, demonstrating sustained growth in the sector. Increased interest was also observed from tourists and investors from Europe and the United States, mainly linked to the real estate investment segment.
Among the sector's challenges, Danieri cited the need to strengthen coordination between public and private sectors to improve the business environment. Currently, the hotel industry must comply with about 38 regulations and standards, a situation that, according to him, hinders the sector's development and competitiveness. Progress in simplifying these processes, he argued, will help boost tourism growth and consolidate Paraguay as a more attractive destination.
