The beer sector in Paraguay is one of the most dynamic in the beverage industry, with a market of about 5 million hectoliters per year and a network of approximately 45,000 points of sale throughout the country. The assessment was made by the Paraguayan Chamber of Alcoholic Beverages (Capaba) on the occasion of International Beer Day, celebrated this Friday, August 1.

Hugo Alonso, president of Capaba's board of directors, highlighted the economic weight of the production chain, which generates about 5,000 direct jobs and approximately 30,000 direct and indirect positions. The jobs are linked to areas such as logistics, transportation, commerce, gastronomy, hospitality, packaging and label manufacturing, advertising, events, and distribution.

Alonso stated that the industry mobilizes an extensive network of national suppliers, being a relevant factor for thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises. He also emphasized that permanent investments in technology, productive efficiency, sustainable practices, and innovation strengthen competitiveness and generate a multiplier effect in the national economy.

The director mentioned that, despite "sustained" smuggling of products from neighboring countries – which, he said, creates unfair competition – the local beer industry remains one of the main tax contributors, drives economic formalization, and promotes the incorporation of technology.

National production maintains a predominant position in the local market, with about 80% share, driven by industrial capacity, brand development, distribution network, and alignment with consumer tastes. Imported beers complement the supply with differentiated styles, increasing diversity.

The Paraguayan market shows evolution with the coexistence of national and international brands, which, according to Alonso, generates competition that raises quality standards, innovation, and investment. All segments – industrial, premium, craft, and non-alcoholic – present growth opportunities, though with different dynamics.

Locally produced beers represent the largest volume, while premium categories show sustained growth. Varieties with low alcohol content or non-alcoholic are gaining relevance, following a global trend. The craft segment strengthens local entrepreneurship and enriches the national beer culture, demonstrating market maturity.

For Alonso, International Beer Day is an opportunity to recognize the contribution of an entire production chain that daily contributes to the country's economic development.
