Paraguay's Chamber of Deputies has approved a declaration requesting the Executive Branch to establish a permanent regional office of the National Police's Identification Department in Alto Paraguay. The initiative, proposed by Colorado Party deputy José Domingo Adorno, aims to address a long-standing demand from residents of the region, who currently lack a fixed location to issue documents such as national identity cards or passports.
According to the statement of reasons, inhabitants of districts like Bahía Negra, Fuerte Olimpo, Carmelo Peralta, and Puerto Casado must travel long distances, often on dirt roads that become impassable during the rainy season, to complete these procedures in neighboring departments or even in Asunción. The lack of documentation prevents access to basic constitutional rights, such as healthcare, education, formal employment, and social assistance programs.
In addition to requesting the installation of a permanent headquarters, the declaration also recommends that the National Police conduct mobile identification drives in the department's districts as a temporary measure until the new unit is implemented. It is worth noting that declarations from the Chamber of Deputies are not binding and depend on the response and actions of the Executive Branch to be implemented.
