An intense mass of polar air brought the coldest dawn of the year to Paraguay on Wednesday, June 24, with temperatures dropping below 0°C in some parts of the country.
According to the Directorate of Meteorology, the lowest temperature in the national territory was recorded in the department of Boquerón, in the Chaco, where thermometers ranged from 0°C to -1.4°C. This is the lowest minimum value recorded so far in 2026.
In the Eastern Region, the lowest temperatures also reached 0°C in the southern part of the country. Overall, minimums ranged between 2.3°C and 5°C. In Asunción and the metropolitan area, the early morning began at 2.6°C.
For the rest of Wednesday, the forecast points to scant cloud cover and mostly sunny skies across most of the country, with winds blowing from the south and southeast. The cold air mass is expected to continue influencing the weather on Thursday and Friday, keeping atmospheric conditions stable with a low chance of rain.
From Saturday into Sunday, an increase in atmospheric instability is forecast, which will raise the chances of rainfall across much of Paraguayan territory.
