Winter in Paraguay intensifies starting this Friday, with the arrival of a new cold air mass that is expected to bring the coldest nights of the week. The Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology (Dinac) issued a special bulletin warning of a marked drop in temperatures across the country.
The thermometers are expected to record the lowest values in the south of the country, with the department of Ñeembucú potentially reaching lows of 3 °C. Regions such as Misiones, Itapúa, Paraguarí, Caazapá, and parts of western Boquerón will also have low temperatures, between 5 °C and 6 °C.
In other areas, including Central, Cordillera, Guairá, San Pedro, and much of the Chaco, lows are expected to range from 7 °C to 12 °C. However, strong southerly winds will increase the feeling of cold, making the perceived temperature even lower than what is recorded.
Meteorology also warns of the possibility of frost formation in the most affected localities, a phenomenon that could impact agricultural production and require extra care on the roads during the morning. The public is advised to dress warmly and to take extra care with children, the elderly, and people with respiratory illnesses.
The intense cold conditions are expected to persist for much of the weekend, marking the beginning of July with a period of significantly low temperatures.
