Expert warns ANDE delays could jeopardize AI investments in Paraguay

The announcement of billion-dollar investments in artificial intelligence data centers in Paraguay, in partnership with Taiwan, represents a historic opportunity, but the country urgently needs to resolve power grid bottlenecks and plan its long-term energy matrix, warns Dr. Victorio Oxilia Dávalos, an energy expert.

The announcement of million-dollar investments to install artificial intelligence (AI) data centers in Paraguay, in partnership with Taiwan, represents a historic opportunity. However, to capitalize on this arrival, it is necessary to urgently resolve power grid bottlenecks and plan the long-term energy matrix. This is the analysis of Dr. Victorio Oxilia Dávalos, an energy expert.

The expert highlighted that the country has highly competitive professionals to absorb the technical demand of these tech giants. “We have highly trained human capital in computer science that can meet training requirements or easily adapt to needs and innovations,” he said.

Oxilia Dávalos pointed out that the current infrastructure has a track record of heavy support, but warned that the expansion plans of the National Electricity Administration (ANDE) are behind schedule. “How will we sustain demand growth over the next 10 or 20 years?” he questioned.

The expert suggests that data centers be installed at strategic, high-power electrical nodes, such as near the Itaipu dam, or in the area of influence of the Yguazú or Valenzuela substations. He also stated that any decision requires a detailed study due to the reality of the current electrical system. “It must be studied, because the networks are generally saturated,” he specified.

Oxilia Dávalos urged the Paraguayan government not to be a mere supplier of cheap energy, but to condition the entry of these companies to strengthen national development. He added that the goal should be a ripple effect that generates specialized jobs for compatriots.
