Traffic on Puente de la Amistad, between Ciudad del Este and Foz do Iguaçu, will face partial closures during the night of Friday, September 11, 2026, and into Saturday morning. The work will take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., without a complete interruption of vehicle traffic.
Concessionaire EPR Yguazú said the work will focus mainly on the Brazilian Customs sector, including the covered area, as well as specific sections of the bridge’s structure and pavement. Drivers will have to use the open lanes and follow the instructions of the teams responsible for organizing traffic.
The pedestrian walkways will also undergo repairs. The closures will be temporary and alternating: while one walkway is closed, the other will remain available to maintain flow in both directions.
The nighttime schedule is intended to reduce the impact on the heavy border traffic between Paraguay and Brazil. The timetable was coordinated with authorities from both countries, but may be changed if weather conditions prevent the work from being carried out.
The maintenance comes after photographs circulated showing cracks and potholes in areas along the pedestrian route. The condition of Puente de la Amistad, which was inaugurated more than six decades ago, has also led business groups and authorities on both sides of the border to call for periodic technical assessments.
For people crossing the border overnight, the main consequence will be the need to follow detours and temporary changes in access to the walkways. Since vehicle traffic will remain open, the expected operational impact is localized, although queues may form if traffic volume remains high.
