Senator Walter Kobylanski announced on Wednesday, May 1, his resignation from the National Crusade Party (Cruzada Nacional), a movement led by Paraguayan politician "Payo" Cubas. During a press conference, the lawmaker stated that he seeks complete independence from the party, citing internal disagreements and the need for political renewal.
"We have decided to completely disassociate ourselves from the National Crusade. It is time to move forward in a different way, giving prominence to the youth who represent the future of this idea," declared Kobylanski, who assumed his Senate seat in September 2025 following the expulsion of former senator Norma Aquino, known as Yamy Nal.
The senator avoided detailing the conflicts with Payo Cubas but admitted that proposals for party modernization were rejected. "The president told me to look for another party, that the National Crusade is not democratic," he revealed, adding that he will remain as an independent in the opposition, without joining the Colorado Party.
The decision was supported by Dr. Raúl Ramírez, a member of his political team. Both criticized the constant internal conflicts that, according to them, hinder legislative work. "The public is already tired of one confusion after another. The country deserves practical solutions," said Ramírez.
Kobylanski acknowledged mistakes during his term, such as his initial support for Senator Javier "Chaqueñito" Vera, but defended his departure as a way to avoid "continuing to witness the shipwreck" of the party. The resignation represents another setback for the National Crusade, which has faced fragmentation since the 2023 elections.
