The Che Róga Porã housing program, run by Paraguay's Ministry of Urban Planning, Housing, and Habitat (MUVH), has already benefited over 6,100 families with pre-approved or pending credit, according to Minister Juan Carlos Baruja. The goal is to reach 7,500 operations by the end of 2026.

Among the beneficiaries is Tania, a Paraguayan resident of Santander, Spain, who became the first compatriot abroad to acquire a house through the program. The handover of the residence, built in San Antonio, was attended by President Santiago Peña, who highlighted the initiative as the first public policy aimed at Paraguayans living overseas.

Che Róga Porã 3.0, launched in May of this year, expanded the income limit to nine minimum wages, increasing the program's reach. Baruja explained that the previous version excluded workers with incomes above six minimum wages, who are now included in the new phase.

The program's funds, which now exceed $269 million, are managed by 34 financial institutions across all 17 departments of the country. A $200 million loan from the government of Taiwan, via Eximbank, is being used, but the growth in demand has already led the government to seek a new credit line for the same amount.

According to the 2022 National Census, Paraguay's housing deficit stands at 1,117,212 homes, with over 1 million requiring renovations or expansions. Baruja stated that the current pace of construction is beginning to reduce this historic deficit but acknowledged that the challenge remains significant.

The program also boosts the economy, generating an average of ten jobs per house built. Currently, between 25,000 and 40,000 people work directly on construction projects linked to Che Róga Porã.

On July 25th and 26th, the Expo and Forum Che Róga will be held at the Port of Asunción, with free admission. The event will bring together financial institutions, developers, and other sector agents to advise families interested in the program.
