The Union of Officials, Employees and Teachers of the Ministry of Education and Sciences (Sifemec) requested Minister Luis Ramírez to suspend the relocation of departments to the new building in Puerto de Asunción, Tower 1, until a series of structural problems are resolved.
Among the deficiencies cited are lack and intermittent supply of water in restrooms, leaks, poor lighting, absence of cleaning, presence of cockroaches, and malfunctioning elevators and alarm systems.
The union also reported access problems to the building, with employees finding doors closed at the beginning and end of work hours, plus lack of parking, restrictions for lunch breaks, and shortage of adequate spaces such as break rooms.
Sifemec also requested information about the property's technical certifications from the Asunción Municipality and the Paraguayan Volunteer Fire Department, plus details about the official handover minutes of the building from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) to the Ministry of Education and Sciences.
Finally, the union requested relocation of time clocks to the ground floor to avoid delays when the building houses approximately 1,500 employees, and preparation of an updated directory with the distribution of offices and contacts of the new departments.
