On the evening of May 15, residents of a San Lorenzo neighborhood confronted two armed motorcycle thieves who tried to rob them while they were sitting on the sidewalk. Security camera footage recorded the incident.
According to accounts, a family and neighbors were sharing the public space when the criminals arrived on a motorcycle and pointed a firearm. The group immediately reacted, confronting the assailants and triggering a community alarm, which caused the suspects to flee.
The National Police arrested a 19-year-old man, a former resident of the neighborhood, who was recognized by the victims. Police reported that the suspect had been involved with drugs. The motorcycle driver has been identified but has not yet been arrested.
Hugo González, one of the victims, stated that eight people were at the scene and that when they stood up to confront the criminals, they gave up the attempt. González said: “There were eight of us, and we stood up to face them, so they gave up. One of them was arrested 12 minutes later and is being prosecuted for attempted aggravated robbery. The motorcycle driver has also been identified.”
