A 22-year-old motorcyclist suffered a violent fall on the PY02 highway in Asunción after losing his balance on an uneven surface left by the Metrobús project, abandoned years ago. The accident, captured on video by another driver, shows Alex Paiva falling onto the asphalt without veering into the adjacent lane, where a large truck was passing at the same moment.

Paiva was wearing a helmet and was assisted by officers who took him to the Trauma Hospital. The uneven surface is on the concrete section built for the bus corridor, between the rigid pavement and the regular asphalt, on the Mariscal Estigarribia highway.

The Metrobús consumed an advance payment of G. 29,109 million from the Paraguayan state during the government of Horacio Cartes, when Ramón Jiménez Gaona was minister of Public Works. An investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office concluded there was no financial damage in that phase. In 2018, under the administration of Mario Abdo Benítez, the works were suspended by order of then-minister Arnoldo Weins, who was later charged with breach of trust.

Paraguay was ultimately ordered by an arbitral tribunal to pay millions in compensation to the Portuguese construction company Mota-Engil, responsible for the project.
