Deputy Arnaldo Valdez highlighted that Alcides Riveros, elected president of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA), Paraguay's main opposition party, represents a very solid political structure within the party. Riveros had the support of nearly 90% of Paraguay's liberal mayors, as well as the backing of senators, deputies, and the two PLRA governors, which reinforces his leadership as president of the liberal coalition.
During the PLRA internal elections, Senator Éver Villalba also had a standout campaign, reaching around 100,000 votes nationwide, even with a smaller structure, demonstrating high popular acceptance. In the department of Misiones, List 9, which supported Villalba, won the presidency of the local party with approximately 4,600 votes, compared to 3,800 for Riveros, and also secured the majority on the national and departmental boards by a margin of 1,200 votes.
Valdez stressed the importance of serious and responsible leadership of the PLRA, with a leadership capable of uniting the party and the opposition for the municipal elections on October 4 and the presidential elections in 2028. He emphasized that work must begin immediately, aiming to ensure the maintenance of the municipalities currently administered by the PLRA in Misiones, as well as to recover cities such as San Juan Bautista, Santiago, and Villa Florida, and to win new districts.
The deputy stated that the municipal elections will be the first step toward the 2028 general elections, highlighting that "there is no time to lose" and that it is necessary to plan and act with a focus on these electoral goals.
