The National Electricity Administration (ANDE) activated a Yellow Code and mobilized around 500 technicians in 175 teams to respond to power outages caused by strong wind gusts hitting the country. The protocol was triggered due to a weather alert forecasting winds of up to 90 km/h, increasing the risk of falling trees and damage to electrical infrastructure.
The intense winds also caused significant damage to the agricultural sector. Small fruit and vegetable producers in the Caaguazú department reported losses in the millions after their greenhouses were destroyed. According to the National Peasant Federation (FNC), each damaged structure represents an estimated loss of up to G. 13 million, leaving farmers in a critical economic situation with no resources for rebuilding.
In the Misiones region, the winds fanned forest fires that burned approximately 300 hectares in the districts of San Ignacio, Santa María, Santa Rosa, and Ayolas. Volunteer firefighters worked for days to control the flames, which threatened homes and caused wild animals to flee their habitats. In Ayolas, the fire spread rapidly, endangering local biodiversity.
The Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) reported that wind intensity is expected to decrease from Sunday onward. ANDE continues its monitoring and is working non-stop to restore electricity service in the affected areas.
