The National Electricity Administration (ANDE) carried out a major operation to combat illegal connections and meter tampering in Areguá and Capiatá, in the Central Department. The state-owned company reported that, after alerts from the Remote Monitoring System, technical teams in the field confirmed two cases of energy theft in medium-voltage supplies.
The interventions took place at an ice factory in Areguá and at a minimarket in Capiatá. At both locations, internal manipulation of the meters was found, with interruption of the voltage reference, an irregular maneuver that prevented the recording of approximately 33% of the energy consumed.
During the technical inspection, it was found that in Areguá the alteration affected Phase II, while in Capiatá it compromised Phase III. Both supplies are registered under the name of Mirtha Elizabeth Gamarra. The estimated property loss is G. 57,279,256. The case was reported to the Luque Prosecutor's Office for appropriate legal measures.
ANDE reminded that electricity theft is a crime under Law No. 7,300/24, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. The institution stated that it will continue its fight against electricity fraud.
