Audit of IPS Expected to Be Completed by End of August, Says Auditor General

Executive Branch Auditor General Alberto Cabrera announced that the audit of the Social Security Institute (IPS) will be finalized by the end of August, focusing on approximately 900 properties owned by the pension agency.

Executive Branch Auditor General Alberto Cabrera confirmed that the audit of the Social Security Institute (IPS) will be completed by the end of August. The goal is to verify the condition and profitability of at least 900 properties belonging to the pension agency.

“We requested, within our audit request, the institution's organizational chart. We believe that if everything goes normally and the documentation is provided on time and in the proper form, by the end of August we will be able to issue a final report,” Cabrera said.

The auditor explained that a complete review of the properties will be conducted. “We will take a representative sample to understand the real situation of the institution. This is an inter-institutional effort; in the audit, we need to link with the General Property Registry to see the actual status of each titled property,” he stated.

Cabrera also highlighted that the availability status of the properties will be checked. “We will not be satisfied with just the titles; we need to know the condition of that property title,” he emphasized.

The minister added that support will be requested from the Government's Main Notary Office to facilitate obtaining information from the Property Registry. “We also need to work with the Military Geographic Institute, which has technicians and technology to determine all the georeferencing mentioned in the titles. If there is an IPS property in Bahía Negra, with this information we can verify if it physically exists,” he explained.

Cabrera admitted that it will be “a very complex task,” as it will be necessary to verify the existence, size, and condition of each property. After mapping the land, it will also be possible to identify those responsible for managing the assets.

“It is to determine who is responsible in this chain of decision-making processes. As the Comptroller's Office says, if there are indications of crimes, we will automatically inform the IPS Presidency so that it can be investigated internally, and these indications can also be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor's Office,” he concluded.
