Binational revenues drop US$44 million in first four months of 2026

Transfers from Itaipu and Yacyretá fell 23.5% from January to April 2026, totaling US$143.5 million, reflecting lower royalties, energy compensation, and energy cession.

The Ministry of Finance reported that, between January and April 2026, transfers from the binational entities Itaipu and Yacyretá totaled US$143,489,800, a drop of US$44 million (23.5%) compared to the same period in 2025.

The main component continued to be royalty payments from Itaipu, which accumulated US$86,917,500, 3.6% below the previous year. In April 2026, royalties reached US$21,339,200.

Itaipu revenues fell from US$161,367,900 to US$132,530,600 in the four-month period, with a notable reduction of US$28.8 million. In March, the amount went from US$36.8 million to US$32.2 million.

Energy compensation, provided for under Law No. 7264/2024, recorded the steepest decline: US$45.6 million in 2026 versus US$71.2 million in 2025, a 36% drop (US$25.6 million). In April, the contribution was US$8.9 million.

Energy cession from Yacyretá plunged from US$26.1 million to US$11 million, a 58% fall (US$15.2 million). There was no revenue from this item in April 2026.

Yacyretá contributed only US$11 million in total, while Itaipu maintained predominance, accounting for 60.6% of the cumulative volume; energy compensation represented 31.8% and Yacyretá energy cession 7.6%.

These reductions affect the financing of public programs, investments, and state expenditures, which already faces high fiscal commitments.
