Electricity demand in Paraguay recorded an accumulated growth of 18.3% in the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to data from the National Electricity Administration (ANDE), the country's state electricity utility.
In June, national consumption reached 2,310,632 MWh, representing an 11.8% increase compared to the 2,067,602 MWh recorded in June of the previous year.
Supply was led by the Itaipú Binacional hydroelectric plant, which provided 2,170,211 MWh in the semester, followed by the Yacyretá Binational Entity with 104,275 MWh, and the Acaray Hydroelectric Plant with 36,120 MWh.
The Puerto Esperanza photovoltaic plant in the Chaco region contributed approximately 26 MWh to the National Interconnected System (SIN), aiding in the diversification of the country's energy matrix.
ANDE reaffirmed that it will continue to drive infrastructure works and strategic projects to strengthen the national electrical system, aiming to provide a more reliable and efficient service in the face of sustained demand growth.
