Truckers Denounce Arbitrary Detention for 40 Days in Toro Pampa

Nine trucks have been immobilized in Toro Pampa, Alto Paraguay, for 40 days, with gates locked by a Governor's Office employee. Drivers say the roads are in ideal condition, but release is denied.

Nine truck drivers have been arbitrarily detained in the Toro Pampa region, Alto Paraguay department, about 715 kilometers from Asunción. For 40 days, the heavy vehicles have remained immobilized in a holding yard, whose gates were padlocked by a local Governor's Office employee.

Heavy rains last month caused the initial bogging down of the trucks, but according to the drivers, the local roads are now in full condition for heavy cargo traffic. Despite this, the responsible employee reportedly claims the route remains closed and refuses to open the gates. “I won't let them pass; I won't open the gates,” the official reportedly said, according to one of the truckers.

The transporters reported that the animals being transported have already been delivered, but the trucks remain held. They demand immediate intervention by higher authorities, considering the situation a violation of the right to work and free movement. The official position from the Gobernación de Alto Paraguay has not been presented or is pending.
