Cerro Porteño Crushes Recoleta FC and Takes Provisional Lead in Women's Annual Tournament

With a 7-0 victory over Recoleta FC, Cerro Porteño reached 19 points and took the provisional lead in the 2026 Women's Annual Tournament, pending Libertad's result on Sunday.

In a match valid for the eighth round of the 2026 Women's Annual Tournament, Cerro Porteño thrashed Recoleta FC 7-0 on Saturday night at the CARDIF 1 stadium in Luque. With the result, the azulgrana team provisionally took the lead in the competition, totaling 19 points, two more than Libertad, which still plays on Sunday against San Lorenzo.

The game started overwhelmingly for Cerro Porteño. At five minutes, Sofia Almirón opened the scoring. Lujan Ocampos extended the lead at 13, and Ana Fleitas made it three at 19 minutes. In the second half, Maira Sánchez and Daniela González scored at 55 and 57 minutes, respectively. Sofia Franco, at 66, and Yanina González, at 86, completed the rout. The main referee was Ivanna Pera.

Led by coach Aldo Sanabria, Cerro Porteño secured its sixth win in eight matches. Recoleta FC, managed by Elvio “Palomo” Sandoval, suffered its fifth defeat and sits in ninth place with six points and a game in hand from the first round yet to be rescheduled.

In the next round, the ninth, Cerro Porteño will face Guarani, while Recoleta FC will take on Sportivo Ameliano. Dates, times, and venues are yet to be determined.
