Deputies and representatives of the Executive branch participated on Wednesday in an inter-institutional workshop focused on the right to public information and government transparency. The event was organized by the Ministry of Justice and held in the session hall of the Chamber of Deputies, with support from the Commission on Social Equity and Equal Rights for Men and Women and the Commission on Justice, Labor and Social Security.
The debate centered on Law No. 5,282/14, which guarantees free citizen access to public information and government transparency. The law ensures any person the right to request, access and receive information from state bodies free of charge, in a timely and complete manner. Public institutions are required to disclose data on their management, budget, contracts and employees, with the aim of strengthening transparency, preventing corruption and promoting citizen participation.
The Ministry of Justice acts as the coordinating body for the law's implementation and inter-institutional coordination. During the meeting, Minister Rodrigo Nicora highlighted the space for reflection and shared commitment between the Legislative and Executive branches. “This meeting will allow us to reaffirm the will of the national government and the different branches of the state in defending the law, seeking a policy of transparency, social justice, democracy and substantial equality for all Paraguayans,” he said.
Nicora stressed that the public information access law is not a concession from the state, but a right and a tool that belongs to citizens. “At the Ministry of Justice we have taken on this role as coordinating body with great determination, and our mission is to ensure that this law is fully applied,” he emphasized.
