The long national holiday weekend left 26 traffic crashes on the country's roads, according to a report released by the Highway Patrol on Monday. Officers carried out more than 600 preventive operations between May 10 and 16 at various points across the national territory.

The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) detailed that the actions included mobile patrols, preventive checkpoints, traffic regulation, and enforcement in high-traffic areas. "The operations made it possible to take drivers who posed a risk to road safety off the road and to reinforce preventive tasks on strategic routes and corridors," the ministry stated.

The operational deployment was handled by officers from regional headquarters and detachments, with the aim of strengthening road safety and promoting responsible driving. Authorities stressed that these measures are part of ongoing efforts to reduce risk situations on the country's highways.
