Cine de Barrio, located at Defensa Nacional 737, between Washington and Peru streets, in the Las Mercedes neighborhood of Asunción, offers two special screenings of the Paraguayan feature film Narciso, directed by Marcelo Martinessi, on Thursday (May 21). The sessions take place at 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., both with English subtitles, aimed especially at the foreign community residing in Paraguay and those who have not yet seen the film.
Set in 1958 under an oppressive military regime, Narciso tells the story of a charismatic radio announcer who returns from Buenos Aires bringing rock and roll and becomes a symbol of freedom, until he is found dead after his last show. The plot is inspired by the book by writer Guido Rodríguez Alcalá, based on the real crime of announcer Bernardo Aranda. The cast includes Diro Romero, Manuel Cuenca, Margarita Irún, Natalia Cálcena, Manuel Fleitas, Aníbal Ortiz, Alberto Sánchez Pastor, Mimí Monte, Belén Vierci, Florencia Boccia, Macarena Candia, plus special appearances by Spanish actress Mona Martínez and Argentine actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart.
Tickets cost G. 50,000 and include a glass of wine at the end of the session, fostering a space for exchanging impressions about the film. Reservations can be made through Cine de Barrio's digital platform, whose link is available on the cultural space's social media.
Meanwhile, the Paraguayan National Audiovisual Institute (INAP) has opened the 2026 call for the Competitive Funds for Film and Audiovisual Development, with a total amount of G. 3,906 million.
