Inflation measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) was 0% in Paraguay in August 2026, the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP), the institution responsible for monitoring prices in the country, reported. The result reflects a positive change below the threshold for rounding to one decimal place.
With August’s figure, inflation accumulated since the start of the year reached 1.8%, below the 3.4% recorded over the same period in 2025. Over 12 months, the index fell from 1.6% in July to 1.5% in August. Core inflation—which excludes more volatile components—had a monthly variation of 0% and an annual rate of 1.3% in August.
The average stability concealed opposing movements among items in the consumer basket. Only 32.7% of products recorded price increases, compared with a historical average of 44.8%, indicating that the increases were less widespread. Lower food prices and imported durable goods offset increases in fuel and services.
The most significant declines included prices for beef, especially flank steak and prime rib, as well as poultry, pork and beef offal. Greater supply available in the domestic market was identified as a factor behind the reduction in beef and pork prices. Prices also fell for vegetables, flour, pasta, milk and oils.
Among imported durable goods, the guarani’s appreciation against the dollar helped lower prices for vehicles, mobile phones and household appliances.
In the opposite direction, diesel and gasoline prices rose under the influence of fluctuations in international oil markets and higher replacement costs. Moderate increases were also recorded for prepared meals, restaurants, medical care and personal-care services.
The result indicates that Paraguayan consumers faced little change in the average price level in August, but it does not mean that all expenses remained stable: food became cheaper for several items, while fuel and services put pressure on household budgets.
