Residents of the San Roque neighborhood in Lambaré said they had gone more than 24 hours without drinking water after a scheduled interruption by the Sanitary Services Company (Essap) for maintenance. The shutdown, announced as expected to last about five hours, also affected parts of the San Antonio neighborhood, residents said.
The hardest-hit area lies between De la Paz and El Mesías streets. Residents said water service had not been restored by the morning of September 26 and that promises made during phone calls that it would resume had not been kept. No explanation from Essap for the delay or new timeline for restoring service is provided.
A resident identified as Myriam said families were unable to cook and stressed the need for water for children and sick people. Teresa, widow of Fernández, 77, said she woke up at 2 a.m. to check the faucet and found it dry. She also said she had called the company’s customer service line and provided her user identification number, but received no immediate solution.
What was initially expected to be a shutdown lasting a few hours thus became a prolonged interruption, with the residents quoted unaware of when service would return. They called on the authorities to act to restore the water supply.
