An account by Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reportedly attributed statements about the government’s mining plans and sector roadmap to Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy Mauricio Bejarano.

As recounted in the report, Bejarano said the government was evaluating with President Santiago Peña the submission of a Mining Code to Congress. The MOPC account also attributed to him the statement that a long-term mining policy had been designed and was still awaiting presidential approval.

On natural resources, the MOPC account attributed to Bejarano the statement that Paraguay could exploit uranium and titanium and, in the future, lithium and rare earths. The report did not detail projects, exploration areas or reserves.

The statements were made at the opening of the II Mining Forum, organized by the Paraguayan Chamber of Mining (Capami) at the Industrial Union of Paraguay. The event brought together national and international experts to discuss critical minerals and global trends. Bejarano also spoke about the sector’s potential to create economic opportunities and develop human resources in the country.
