WHO Declares International Emergency Over New Ebola Outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a public health emergency of international concern due to an Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo strain, which has already totaled eight confirmed cases, 246 suspected cases, and 80 deaths in Ituri province, DRC, plus two cases in Kampala, Uganda, with one death. The measure does not constitute a pandemic emergency under the 2005 International Health Regulations, but requires global coordination to contain the spread.

JEM has kept accusation against deputy prosecutor over alleged shelving of Hernán Rivas case stalled for more than two years

The Jury for the Prosecution of Magistrates (JEM) has not reviewed the complaint against deputy prosecutor Soledad Machuca since October 2023. She is accused of shelving the investigation into the allegedly fake law degree of former Colorado Party senator Hernán Rivas. The accusation, filed by deputies from the National Crusade Party, was nearly dismissed in August 2025, but a request from Supreme Court Justice Manuel Ramírez Candia suspended the decision. The case has not been rescheduled since.
