The Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology issued successive alert bulletins throughout this weekend due to the formation of storm cells over Paraguay, with a risk of "severe weather phenomena" in different regions of the country.
On Saturday night, the first warning indicated the possibility of moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms in four departments in the east and southeast: Caazapá, Itapúa, Alto Paraná, and Canindeyú. Shortly after midnight on Sunday, the alert was expanded to six departments in the center, south, and east of the Eastern Region — Guairá, Caazapá, Itapúa, Misiones, Paraguarí, and Alto Paraná — with the occasional possibility of hail during the early morning hours.
Throughout Sunday, a new bulletin updated the coverage area and maintained the alert for another six departments: Concepción, San Pedro, Alto Paraná, Canindeyú, the southeast of Presidente Hayes, and the east of Alto Paraguay. In these locations, the forecast includes rain with moderate to strong thunderstorms, moderate to strong wind gusts, and occasional hail during the afternoon and early evening hours.
The extended forecast from the Directorate of Meteorology indicates that precipitation and storms are expected to continue through Monday and extend across much of the national territory, including Asunción. Predominant winds will be from the south, with minimum temperatures ranging between 8 °C and 16 °C and maximums between 14 °C and 25 °C.
