Electoral Court begins distributing ballot kits for June 7 internal elections

The Electoral Court began distributing 16,582 electronic ballot boxes and election kits on Sunday, May 31, for the June 7 simultaneous primary elections, with shipments by land, river, and air to various departments of Paraguay, coordinated by the National Police, Military Forces, and Public Prosecutor's Office.

The Electoral Justice system began on Sunday, May 31, the operation to distribute ballot kits and electronic voting machines that will be used in the simultaneous internal elections of political organizations, scheduled for June 7.

The first contingent, destined for the department of Alto Paraguay, departed at 7:00 a.m. heading to Concepción by land. From there, the materials will continue by river route to Puerto Pinasco, Itacuá, and Bahía Negra. The transfer is being carried out under the joint coordination of the National Police, the Military Forces, and with oversight from the Public Prosecutor's Office, to ensure the security and inviolability of the equipment.

The ballot kits and voting machines will be temporarily stored at the Electoral Registries of each region before being distributed to the authorized polling stations. Distribution will continue on Wednesday, June 3, with shipments to the departments of Alto Paraná, Itapúa, Concepción, Caaguazú, Amambay, San Pedro, and Canindeyú. The delivery to the 19 districts of the department of Central is expected to be completed on Friday, and in Asunción, on Saturday morning.

According to the Superior Electoral Court (TSJE), 16,582 electronic voting machines will be distributed nationwide. The National Republican Association (ANR) will use 9,528 machines at 481 polling stations, while the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA) will have 5,118 devices at 505 locations. Other political organizations will account for 1,936 machines at 281 locations. In total, 1,267 polling stations will serve 4,338,716 voters at 13,031 ballot reception tables.

Hugo Cazal, general coordinator of the TREP and intern at the TSJE, reported that the voting machines will leave with a 30% battery charge and will be fully charged on Saturday, June 6, starting at 1:00 p.m., when a functionality and integrity test of the equipment will also be conducted at each polling station. The test will continue until 2:00 p.m., to ensure that everything is in working order for election Sunday.

The Electoral Justice system provides technical and logistical assistance to the electoral courts of political organizations through interinstitutional cooperation agreements. Under Law 351 of the Electoral Code, the TSJE must regulate the ballot reception tables by designating at least one electoral delegate per location, responsible for certifying the setup and closing of the tables.
