Paraguay's Electronic Identity surpasses 1.5 million users and expands access to digital public services

Paraguay's Electronic Identity has surpassed 1.5 million users, representing around 30% of the population over 18 years of age, and enables access to more than 480 digital public services through the Portal Paraguay, with the 18-to-35 age group accounting for 56% of registrations.

Paraguay's Electronic Identity has surpassed the 1.5 million user mark and is now firmly established as the country's main gateway to digital public services. The system, administered by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC), already has 1,501,616 registered users, representing roughly 30% of the population over 18 who are eligible to use the service.

Through Electronic Identity, citizens can complete more than 480 procedures entirely online via Portal Paraguay, the platform that brings together the state's main digital services. Adoption is led by the 18-to-35 age group, which accounts for 56% of users. Meanwhile, the 55-to-65 age bracket represents just 7% of the total, highlighting a generational gap in the use of the tool.

MITIC emphasizes that, just like physical documents, Electronic Identity also requires protection. The ministry advises users to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) via email and SMS, available on the paraguay.gov.py portal, as an essential measure to prevent unauthorized access and ensure the digital security of accounts.

The rollout of Electronic Identity is part of the Paraguayan government's comprehensive digitalization strategy, aimed at streamlining processes, reducing wait times, and increasing transparency in public administration. In practice, the tool has become indispensable for obtaining personal documents, completing administrative procedures, and strengthening the relationship between the state and citizens, with a direct impact on the daily lives of young people and communities that see digitalization as a path to inclusion.
