The Council of Superintendence of the Supreme Court of Justice decided to observe the national holiday decreed by the Executive Branch for Tuesday, June 30, 2026, following the historic qualification of the Paraguayan national team for the round of 16 of the World Cup. With this measure, jurisdictional, registry, and administrative activities are suspended across all judicial districts in the country.
The decision follows the presidential decree issued after La Albirroja's victory over Germany in a penalty shootout, a result that sparked a day of national celebration and prompted the declaration of the holiday.
Despite the general suspension, the resolution maintained the court auctions already scheduled for Tuesday, ordering court clerks and judicial auctioneers to report to their workplaces to carry out these procedural acts. The Court also ensured that oral and public criminal trials will proceed, both those already underway and those set to begin during the holiday, with the responsibility falling on the presidents of the Trial Courts to guarantee the presence of essential staff for the hearings to function.
Regarding procedural and registry deadlines, the Court established that all those expiring on Tuesday, June 30, are extended to Wednesday, July 1, 2026. The resolution also reminded judges of the authority provided under Article 196 of the Judicial Organization Code, which allows for the designation of holidays and non-working hours when circumstances require it to ensure the continuity of the justice service.
