The San Pedro Department will have its first export slaughterhouse, with an investment exceeding $40 million announced after a meeting between President Santiago Peña, government officials, and businessman Henrique Junqueira, owner of Estrellita Food SA.
The facility will be built in General Resquín and will start with a capacity to slaughter 200 cattle per day, with plans to expand to 400 animals in the second year and 600 in a third phase. The first phase will require approximately $22 million, allocated for plant construction and working capital.
The project will generate 130 jobs during construction and 150 direct positions when the plant is operational, in addition to boosting hundreds of indirect jobs. The strategic location of General Resquín was chosen for its transport logistics and because San Pedro concentrates the largest livestock mass destined for export in Paraguay.
The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Giménez, emphasized that the installation of the slaughterhouse is a key step to industrialize San Pedro's livestock production and will help attract new ventures to the region. Henrique Junqueira stated that the goal is to develop a plant with international standards to access all export markets approved by the National Service for Animal Quality and Health (Senacsa), in addition to supplying the Paraguayan market.
During the announcement, held at the official residence Mburuvicha Róga, the Governor of San Pedro, Freddy D’Ecclesiis, and officials from the Vice Ministry of Investments and Exports (Rediex) and Senacsa also participated.
