Recoleta FC snatched a 2-2 draw with Deportivo Cuenca on Tuesday night at Estadio Alejandro Serrano in Cuenca, Ecuador, in the fifth round of Group D of the Copa Sudamericana 2026. With the result, the Paraguayan team remains alive in the fight for a spot in the round of 16.

Pedro Ríos and Junior Noguera scored for Recoleta, while Luis Cardozo (own goal) and David González found the net for Deportivo Cuenca. Peruvian referee Roberto Pérez officiated the match, with Michael Espinoza on VAR.

With the draw, Recoleta has five points and sits in second place in the group, behind leaders San Lorenzo de Almagro, who have six points. Deportivo Cuenca also has five points but is third on goal difference. Santos, with three points, rounds out the table.

The final round will be on May 26 at 9:30 p.m. Brasília time, with Recoleta visiting San Lorenzo in Buenos Aires. Santos faces Deportivo Cuenca. A win guarantees Recoleta advances to the next stage, regardless of the other result.

Recoleta had four consecutive draws in the group stage, including a 1-1 draw with Santos, and had not yet won in the tournament. In the Paraguayan Championship, the team lost 3-2 to Olimpia last weekend.
